What is the Preeti font?

Preeti is a legacy Nepali font from the early 1990s that maps Devanagari glyphs onto ordinary keyboard keys, instead of using standard Unicode code points. It predates Unicode support and still turns up in old government forms, news archives, and Facebook or forum posts from that era — readable only if the Preeti font is installed, and garbled everywhere else.
